KINGSPORT, Tenn. - Dobyns-Bennett High School is pleased to announce the appointment of Reid Burton as the new head boys' golf coach. This announcement comes after Michael Holt stepped down from the job this year after seven seasons at the helm.
“We are very excited to name Coach Burton our new head boys' golf coach,” said D-B Athletic Director Frankie DeBusk. “Reid joined us last year as an assistant golf coach and his passion for working with student-athletes was clear from the start. I am excited to see him move into this role and look forward to watching the continued growth of our program under his leadership.”
A proud graduate of Dobyns-Bennett High School (‘03) and East Tennessee State University (‘07), Coach Burton brings a variety of experiences, both on and off the golf course. During his time at D-B, Reid served as the captain of the basketball team, demonstrating leadership qualities that would shape his future endeavors.
In addition to his new title as “Head Golf Coach,” Coach Burton is a respected member of the local business community, owning Braeden's BBQ for the past decade. His entrepreneurial spirit and dedication to excellence translate seamlessly into his coaching philosophy, which emphasizes not only athletic skill but also character development and life lessons.
Reid married his high school sweetheart, Kristin and they’ve been together for nearly seventeen years. They are the proud parents of two daughters, Kennedy and Klaire. Kennedy shares her father’s love of golf and currently plays on the Sevier Middle School Golf team. Klaire’s passion is gymnastics.
Reflecting on his new position, Coach Burton remarked, "I am deeply honored to lead the Dobyns-Bennett boys' golf team. Coach Holt has left behind a legacy of excellence, and I am humbled to follow in his footsteps. More than just a game, golf teaches invaluable life lessons, and I am committed to nurturing not only the players' skills but also their character and resilience."
Any boy that is interested in playing golf this upcoming season should make plans to attend on either May 28th or June 11th at Ridgefields Country Club at 5:00pm. For more information, email Coach Reid Burton ([email protected]).
Any girl that is interested in playing can try out on June 5, 2024 at Crockett Ridge Golf Course, starting at 9:00am. Email Coach Bill Darnell ([email protected]) for more information.
