Dobyns-Bennett High School Names Head Unified Track and Field Coach

KINGSPORT, TENN. – Kingsport City Schools has announced the appointment of Sarah Good as head coach for the Unified Track and Field team at Dobyns-Bennett High School, effective immediately. In addition to those duties, Good will also oversee Special Olympics - Track, and Tribe Games Track and Field day.

The Unified Sports program pairs KCS students with disabilities (athletes) with their non-disabled peers (partners) to compete on the same team at a competitive level. It was inspired by a simple principle: Training together and playing together quickly leads to friendship and understanding.

“Sarah is another example of the type of coach and person we want within the KCS SPED Athletic program,” said KCS SPED Athletic Coordinator, Nick Lingerfelt. "She is a great person who went to school in Kingsport and has been willing to serve all of our student-athletes. Her passion for our new sports program has been obvious since day one and I welcome Sarah to our team as a coach and organizer of these events."

Good's first involvement with the KCS SPED Athletics program was through her daughter's participation in the STARS/BUDS programs and Sparkle Squad. Good states, "Being peer buddies has been a life-changing experience for my daughters and I am excited for the opportunity to work with our special needs students even more and to help expand and adapt these programs within Kingsport City Schools."

A native of Kingsport, Good currently serves as an English as a Secondary Language (ESL) teacher at Dobyns-Bennett. Good was a multi-sport athlete and a 1998 graduate of Dobyns-Bennett. She is a graduate of the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, where she was a coxswain for the UTC rowing team and received a bachelor's degree in Secondary English Education with an endorsement in English as a Second Language. She then went on to receive a master's degree in Early Childhood Special Education from the University of Tennessee.
