KINGSPORT, Tenn. - Dobyns-Bennett has finalized its football schedule for the 2023 campaign. This upcoming season will mark the 103rd installment of Dobyns-Bennett Football and the Indians’ sixth season under the direction of head coach, Joey Christian (38-19-0).
“I’m very excited about the schedule we have for the upcoming year,” said Coach Christian. “We always want to play as many quality teams as possible, both locally and within a two-hour drive, that will challenge and prepare us for playoff time.”
The 2023 schedule features ten games, five at home and five on the road. In addition to five conference games, the Tribe will play out-of-conference matchups against Farragut, Greeneville, Asheville High (NC), Elizabethton and David Crockett.
Coach Christian shared his thoughts on some of the new additions to the regular season schedule: “Farragut and Elizabethton are both high quality teams. Coach Courtney and Coach Witten have two of the most respected programs in the state,” said Christian. “We have also added Asheville High School to our 2023 and 2024 schedule. The Cougars have a history of great tradition and success with their football program. This new matchup should be a great opportunity for our team and fans to see a high-caliber team from a neighboring state.”
Last season, the Tribe (8-3, 4-1 Conf.) finished as runner-up in the Big East and made it to the first round of the TSSAA Class 6A Playoffs. Dobyns-Bennett Football is one of the winningest programs in the nation with an all-time record of 820-262-28 (75.14%).
